Desert Boots for the New Generation

The nature of desert sand makes it difficult to walk on. Sands shift, making it a huge challenge for people to move on, much less be comfortable in. Soldiers who went to wars fought in deserts needed the appropriate footwear to be able to walk on sand with little difficulty. Military desert boots were devised as the footwear of choice for the desert. In comparison with other types of footwear, its design and make is more suitable for the terrain. These types of footwear are known to be resilient against slipping and oil, making it more adaptable regardless of the type of terrain that soldiers face. Initially popular with the military, later on these desert boots also became available and affordable for the public to appreciate and use as well.

Boots for the desert have been around since the 1950s but have only gained popularity during the 1990s. This boost in popularity occurred only after the desert storm wars, producing the tan hues that these boots are initially well known for. Their acceptance in the public market has made the product a necessity for desert travel even for regular folk. The newer models have started including more features to make them more comfortable for everyday wear in the desert or even other areas, to fit the current trends in fashion and a wider variety of personal tastes.

Desert Boots

Today’s desert tactical boots have gone through several modifications from their days during desert storm. Essentially made from leather or suede, boots produced for public use have included additional features. This makes the suede desert boots the more comfortable type of footwear to put on regardless of whether the footwear undergoes the threat of extreme heat and cold temperatures of the desert or wear and tear of everyday living. Some of the newer features include allowing air to flow through the inner sections such as breathable lining and vents. Besides being breathable, suede desert footwear is meant to also be water and mildew resistant. Its outer covering is made from nylon which assists in making the shoes breathable, resilient to scratches and able to dry requiring as little time as possible.

Because of the dusty nature of the desert terrain, these types of combat boots are built out of a leather material which does not require a lot of polishing or cleaning. Cleanup is easy. By using a specialized boot brush or toothbrush, brush the areas where dust and dirt have accumulated. With a cloth soaked with mild detergent and warm water, scrub the sides and insides made with mesh. A suede cleaner and water repellent may also be used depending on the type of boot. Cleaners based in alcohol or oil should not be used for cleaning desert styled boots. In any and all cases, it is best to refer to the instructions given by the manufacturer in order to effectively clean these types of desert type footwear.

There are certain groups in society which have grown fond of wearing mens desert boots. Wearing one has become a fashion statement. No longer restricted to just the military, some fashion and music styles are also becoming associated with using boots. However, most have grown accustomed to using boots more because of their durability rather than a fashion statement.

Army desert boots are still commonly found in their usual tan colors but newer models may fashion other military related hues such as fawn, khaki or brown. These types of footwear may have been on the market for the last several decades, but they still continue to be an integral part of some aspects of the music and fashion industry, continuing to draw crowds of new fans each year.
